Leonard Felson is a former staff writer for The Hartford Courant, the nation's oldest continuously published newspaper. He took a one-year leave of absence from the newspaper in 1993 and never returned to his staff job.

Since then he has written for numerous national and international publications including The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Jerusalem Report Magazine, Moment Magazine, Family Fun, First for Women and the airline magazines of US Airways and Continental. Regionally, he has written for Connecticut Magazine, Hartford Magazine and Northeast Magazine (the Sunday magazine of The Hartford Courant.) He also has written for The Connecticut Jewish Ledger and The Hartford Business Journal.

His articles have spanned many subjects, from revitalization efforts in Hartford, Conn., (where he is based) to the story of an itinerant New England rabbi who engages otherwise secular moderns. His specialties include profiles, explanatory pieces and narrative non-fiction.

Besides writing for magazines and newspapers, Felson also has written for such trade journals as Marketing News and for custom publications including his most recent assignment for Hartford: On the Rise.

In addition, Felson has provided corporate communications services for clients big and small, from Fortune 500 companies to community non-profit organizations. Clients have included Bank of America, Aetna Inc., St. Paul Travelers and The Hartford. Among projects he’s handled are: press releases, brochure copywriting, internal newsletter articles, speeches, research papers, advertorials and Web content. He also has ghostwritten two books, the first on the relationship between insurance carriers and sales agents, the second on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Before becoming a freelance writer, Leonard Felson was a reporter for The Hartford Courant, where many of his stories were republished in newspapers from coast to coast by major wire services. He began his career as a reporter for a small daily in Paso Robles, Calif., now a major wine-growing region. He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, not far from where he grew up.

Leonard Felson is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors. He lives in West Hartford, Conn., with his wife, Julia M. Rosenblum, a certified public accountant, their teenage son, Ben, and Sammy, a Wheaton Terrier. Their two older children, Rachel and David, are in college.
